TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected two tropical cyclones affecting the weather and ocean waves in Indonesia today, Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The two are Tropical Cyclone Koto, which developed from cyclone seed 92W in the West Philippine Sea, and Tropical Cyclone Senyar, which was initially cyclone seed 95B.
Citing BMKG's analysis this morning, the Tropical Cyclone Koto reached the top speed of 40 knots or 75 kilometers per hour, with a minimum air pressure of 996 hPa. The cyclone is expected to strengthen into category 2 over the next 24 hours, moving westwards, away from Indonesia.
Cyclone Koto will trigger, directly and indirectly, heavy downpour in West Kalimantan and the Riau Islands. The cyclone will also cause high waves of 2.5-4 meters in the North Natuna Sea, as well as medium waves of 1.25-2.5 meters in the waters of North Kalimantan, the western part of the Sulawesi Sea, the northern part of the Makassar Strait, and the waters of West Kalimantan.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Senyar is observed east of Aceh near the Malacca Strait. The storm reaches a maximum wind speed of 43 knots or 80 kilometers per hour, with an air pressure of 998 hPa. But the cyclone is expected to slow down despite remaining a category 1 storm, moving west-southwest towards Indonesia.
The wind vortex can cause very heavy or extreme rainfall, as well as strong winds in Aceh and North Sumatra. Moderate rainfall, meanwhile, is expected in West Sumatra and Riau.
Tropical Cyclone Senyar could also trigger 4-meter high waves in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, as well as the Indian Ocean west of Aceh to the Nias Islands.
