TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brazil is actively seeking Carlo Ancelotti as their national team coach. If the Italian coach faces failure with Real Madrid, it could benefit the Brazilian Football Association's plans.
The opportunity grew stronger when Arsenal eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League. However, this isn't because Brazil supports Barcelona, Madrid's eternal rival, nor is it due to any animosity toward Madrid. It is simply because Brazil is keen to bring Ancelotti on board as their coach.
Manchester City goalkeeper from Brazil, Ederson, even joked that he was ready to eliminate Madrid from the Champions League for Ancelotti to coach the Brazilian national team. Ederson's hope did not come true as City failed to stop Madrid.
But, Ederson has Arsenal to thank. The Gunners successfully kicked Madrid out of the Champions League. The situation would be different if Ancelotti had delivered league and Copa del Rey titles so that Real Madrid did not let him go.
Madrid is now four points behind Barcelona in the La Liga standings after defeating Athletic Club 1-0 last weekend. El Real also has the chance to win the Copa del Rey if they win the final against Barcelona on April 27.
Ancelotti himself does not turn a blind eye to the challenge of coaching one of the best teams in the world that has most frequently won the World Cup. Unfortunately, Ancelotti will only leave Madrid if the Spanish capital club dismisses him, and Madrid will only dismiss him if the coach fails to win any trophies this season.
Brazil has been eyeing Ancelotti since Tite resigned in December 2022. The trigger was Brazil's messy performance in the 2022 World Cup.
The enthusiasm to bring in Ancelotti grew larger after Selecao was thrashed 4-1 by Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America. It was also Brazil's worst defeat to Argentina since 1964.
Brazil has never been able to defeat Argentina in the last six years, including the Copa America 2021 final when Lionel Messi lifted a major football tournament trophy with the Argentina national team for the first time.
It must be admitted that this edition of Argentina is indeed better, cohesive, and solid. This fact is very painful for Brazil considering the Selecao squad is also filled with great players from their clubs, including Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid and Raphinha at Barcelona.
