TEMPO.CO, Depok - Between March and April 2025, the Narcotics Detective Unit of the Depok Metropolitan Police arrested 27 individuals involved in the illegal sale of type G drugs classified as hard drugs, seizing 43,215 pills of various brands as evidence.

Commissioner Yefta Ruben Hasian Aruan, head of the Narcotics Detective Unit, emphasized that the Depok Police and its precincts are taking firm action against the misuse and unauthorized sale of pharmaceutical drugs that violate Indonesia’s health regulations.

"As a result, 27 suspects were apprehended. The evidence seized from these 27 suspects consists of 43,215 pills of various types, including Tramadol and others," said Yefta, accompanied by Public Relations Officer Police Adjunct Commissioner Yuni S, on Monday, April 21, 2025.

According to Yefta, arrests were made across nine districts, including Cipayung, Sukmajaya, Pancoran Mas, Beji, Cilodong, Bojongsari, Cinere, Sawangan, and Tapos. Most suspects were freelancers or laborers, and not residents of Depok.

"Their roles as of now are clearly as sellers, but we are still investigating their suppliers. It is still under investigation," he added, noting that the buyers come from a wide demographic, including minors and adults.

"On average, the buyers are mostly school children, or more accurately, they are used by people hanging out," Yefta said.

He also stated that the suspects were earning between Rp 800,000 to Rp 1 million per day from these sales, although that figure represents gross income and remains under further investigation.

The suspects operated mainly through grocery stores and have now begun offering cash-on-delivery (COD) services.

"So, some still operate as actual stores or disguise themselves as grocery stores, while others use COD, where the person waits at a certain place, hanging out, and then the buyers visit them," Yefta explained.

Regular customers were reportedly coordinated through WhatsApp. The origins of the drug supply chain are still being investigated.

All 27 suspects will face charges under Articles 435 and 436 of Indonesia’s Health Law No. 17 of 2023, which carry prison sentences ranging from five to twelve years.

"The penalty ranges from 5 years imprisonment to 12 years imprisonment," said Yefta.
