South Korean Red Sparks' Planned Trip to Indonesia This Year Canceled

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The planned visit of the South Korean women's volleyball team, Daejeon CheongKwanJang Red Sparks, to Indonesia, initially slated for 2025, has been postponed due to a conflict in competition schedules between the two nations.

Director of the Fund Management Agency for Sports Development (LPDUK), also known as Inaspro, Ferry Kono, stated that communication with the Red Sparks' management remains positive, despite the inability to proceed with the visit this year. Rescheduling is anticipated for discussion in the next season.

"This decision does not end our collaboration. On the contrary, it demonstrates a mature approach to managing professional sports agendas. We continue to maintain constructive dialogue with Red Sparks and are optimistic about identifying a more suitable timeframe in the next season," affirmed Ferry Kono in his written statement released on Tuesday.

Red Sparks was initially scheduled to meet with their Indonesian volleyball enthusiasts following the conclusion of the V-League Korea 2023-2024 season, which ended in April. However, this timing unfortunately coincided with the ongoing Proliga 2025 competition in Indonesia, which is set to conclude on May 11.

Inaspro did propose an alternative schedule after the Proliga. Nevertheless, Red Sparks conveyed that their players and staff have pre-existing personal commitments and training schedules extending until the end of July, as they must commence preparations for the new V-League season in August.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, also confirmed that communication between the Indonesian organizers and Red Sparks has been established for an extended period.

He emphasized that the primary obstacle was not related to logistical readiness but was the timing constraints. "Red Sparks had suggested a visit in May, but at that time, our athletes were still actively competing in the Proliga. Other proposals for April and June also clashed with their schedules. So, this is purely a matter of schedule misalignment," Minister Dito clarified.

Despite this postponement, Inaspro underscored that all technical preparations within Indonesia had been completed, including the preparedness of venues and logistical arrangements.

This deferral was deemed necessary to ensure that Red Sparks' future visit can be executed with optimal efficiency and impact.

This collaborative endeavor had garnered public attention, largely due to the presence of Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi on the Red Sparks' roster. Although Megawati's contract with the Daejeon club has concluded, Inaspro remains hopeful that the player will be able to participate in future activities, including potentially strengthening the Indonesian national team.

Inaspro conveyed that they are currently developing several new initiatives aimed at further invigorating the competitive spirit among national volleyball athletes and their fanbase. "We are not only exploring international partnerships but also reinforcing the fundamental aspects of national sports. We have exciting programs for all volleyball enthusiasts in Indonesia," Ferry added.

Inaspro expresses its optimism that the collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea in the realm of sports, particularly volleyball, will continue to flourish and yield positive outcomes for both nations.
