TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited hundreds of Islamic organization figures to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The event took place from late afternoon until midnight, starting with a collective breaking of the fast, followed by discussions on the government's stance on various current issues.
Coordinating Minister for the Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, who attended the event, stated that Prabowo discussed national and international politics with Islamic figures. "The meeting addressed the developments in domestic and international geopolitics, ultimately emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity," he said after the event at the palace.
During today's event, President Prabowo broke the fast with three top Islamic organization leaders. They were Miftachul Achyar, Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) General Chair, Haedar Nashir, Muhammadiyah Chair, and Anwar Iskandar, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chair. Discussions with other participants were held after breaking the fast.
According to Zulkifli, Prabowo delivered a presentation to the participants starting from 8:00 PM local time. The presentation covered various issues, including the escalation of the conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran, and lasted until 11:00 PM. "He spoke for three hours," Zulkifli stated.
He further stated that Prabowo emphasized the need for Indonesia to maintain unity in the face of difficult circumstances. "To protect and preserve the integrity of our nation and people, especially in such challenging situations, the President once again explained the importance of togetherness and unity," he conveyed.
Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid, who also listened to Prabowo's presentation, mentioned that the President elaborated on at least two issues to the audience. Firstly, he discussed global geopolitics and economics, including the situation in Palestine and the impact of the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Secondly, Nusron stated that Prabowo also highlighted the current economic and social conditions in Indonesia. "From the meeting, the clergy and the leaders of Islamic organizations agreed to engage in intensive communication and to understand the government's stance, as conveyed by the President," Nusron said.
Several leaders from different Islamic community organizations were invited to join Prabowo for iftar. Among those present were Yahya Cholil Staquf, Nahdlatul Ulama General Chair, and Hanif Alatas, the Secretary of the Advisory Council of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).
