TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the condition of Indonesian citizens in Iran amid escalating tensions with the United States, and has prepared evacuation options if necessary.
According to Heni Hamidah, Acting Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad (PWNI), although the situation in Tehran and other cities currently remains conducive, the Alert Level 1 security status imposed by the Ministry since June 2025 remains in effect.
"All contingency plans remain prepared, including various evacuation route options if needed," Heni stated in a written address to Antara in Jakarta on Monday, February 23, 2026.
She conveyed that in efforts to monitor the safety of Indonesian citizens in Iran, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran maintains routine and active communication with its nationals.
As of now, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has not received reports of Indonesian citizens facing direct threats or situations that endanger their safety, Heni noted.
"However, Indonesian citizens are urged to remain vigilant and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran," she added.
"All Indonesian citizens in Iran are advised to continue increasing their vigilance, monitor the latest developments, and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran," said the Acting Director.
Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have not subsided, even as both nations remain committed to advancing indirect bilateral negotiations to a new stage this March.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that Iran has 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement regarding its nuclear program. Trump even threatened that "bad things" would happen if an agreement were not reached.
Trump has also previously stated that a "massive armada" is en route to Iran.
According to a recent report by the Financial Times, the U.S. has deployed 16 warships with a total of 40,000 personnel and seven air squadrons, each consisting of 70 fighter jets, to various bases across the Middle East.
This volatile situation has prompted several countries to urge their citizens still in Iran to leave the country, including Germany, Poland, Sweden, as well as India and South Korea.
