TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The wait is over, but a greater, new mission is about to begin for Jumanji 3. At the CinemaCon on Monday, Sony Pictures unveiled a first look at the long-awaited third installment of the beloved supernatural video game franchise, and it's clear the stakes have never been higher.
Titled Jumanji: Open World, the panel was joined by stars Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black. "We are pumped about being back for another Jumanji," Hart said, while Black added, "This is my favorite so far."
Jumanji 3 trailer teases a thrilling blur between the fantastical game world and reality. Avatars Dr. Bravestone (Johnson), Franklin Finbar (Hart), Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon (Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) find themselves stranded in "demo mode,” trapped in the real world with their in-game personas fully intact. One of the trailer's moments sees Dr. Bravestone spotted by Spencer's grandfather (Danny DeVito) at a corner booth of a restaurant, inexplicably speaking in a Spanish accent.
“I'm beginning to suspect we're not in Jumanji,” Black quipped.
The trailer also delivers a wilder threat, with jungle beasts rampaging through a New England town, as Variety notes. This circumstance makes the return of the four teen heroes all the more urgent, and fans will be glad to know that Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Se'Darius Blain are all back to reprise their roles. Cast members Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Rhys Darby also return, portraying their roles from previous installments.
Jumanji 3 arrives seven years after Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) and six years after the franchise's modern reboot, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017). The film also pays tribute to the 1995 Robin Williams classic that started it all, with “Open World” honoring the original through a touching Easter egg, per The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.
“One half of the original dice from the original Jumanji. This one's for you,” Johnson noted, gesturing skyward in a heartfelt nod to Williams.
Jumanji 3, Jumanji: Open World is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, once again directed by Jake Kasdan.
