TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, has formed a crisis response team following the escalating conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The team was established as a precautionary measure to protect Indonesian citizens who remain in areas affected by the conflict.
Heni Hamidah, acting director for the protection of Indonesian citizens at the foreign ministry, said the team will closely monitor developments in the conflict. The aim is to enable the government to respond quickly to protect Indonesians if the security situation worsens.
“We have formed a crisis response team and intensified communication between the ministry’s headquarters and Indonesian missions in affected areas to obtain updates on the actual security situation, as well as the conditions and whereabouts of Indonesian citizens,” Heni said on Friday, March 6, 2026, in a statement cited from the government’s communication bureau.
Alongside the establishment of the team, Heni said the ministry is strengthening coordination to monitor developments on the ground. Indonesian diplomatic missions in affected areas continue to communicate with Indonesian citizens and regularly report updates to the ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta.
Indonesian representatives are also updating data on the number and distribution of citizens within their jurisdictions. In addition, the missions are reviewing contingency plans and assessing various evacuation options in the event that the security situation deteriorates.
Heni emphasized that the ministry is also intensifying external communication, particularly with local authorities in conflict-affected areas. Indonesian citizens have been urged to remain cautious and monitor official information from local governments and Indonesian diplomatic missions.
“We continue to urge Indonesian citizens in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow official information from local authorities and Indonesian representatives, and maintain intensive communication with the nearest Indonesian missions,” she said.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministry is also monitoring operations at international airports in affected countries, including the availability of daily flights. According to Heni, this step is intended to anticipate the possibility of Indonesian citizens being stranded due to flight disruptions.
Heni said several Indonesians have reported travel difficulties due to airspace restrictions or closures in certain areas. However, the government has ensured that those affected continue to receive assistance while waiting for alternative flights.
“For Indonesian citizens who are stranded while waiting for flights home, Indonesian representatives and local authorities are assisting with accommodation, meals, and the arrangement of new flight schedules,” Heni said.
