TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia could decide to withdraw from the Board of Peace formed by U.S. President Donald Trump. This decision will be made if the Board of Peace's actions prove to be more harmful to the people of Gaza, Palestine.
This information was conveyed by former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairperson Abraham Samad, who attended a closed meeting with Prabowo at his residence on Jalan Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Friday, January 30, 2026. The meeting included several figures considered to be opposition by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
"Prabowo said there's no need to worry too much, because if in its course it turns out to be more harmful for the Palestinians and Gaza, we can withdraw," said Abraham Samad, quoting Prabowo when contacted on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Indonesia officially joined the Board of Peace on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Prabowo personally signed the Board of Peace charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
In the meeting at Kertanegara, Abraham said that Prabowo explained the reasons why Indonesia joined the Board of Peace. However, Abraham did not remember Prabowo's specific reasons for the decision. But he remembers Prabowo saying Indonesia could withdraw if the Board of Peace proves to be more harmful to the people of Gaza, Palestine.
According to him, the President also plans to invite several organizations and religious figures to explain the reasons for Indonesia's accession to the Board of Peace.
"Prabowo will invite religious figures, the largest religious organizations, and other religious figures to explain in detail the reasons," he said.
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin previously mentioned that President Prabowo Subianto invited figures considered to be opposition to the government on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Abraham mentioned that the meeting lasted about 4.5 hours, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Prabowo's residence on Jalan Kertanegara, Jakarta.
Abraham stated that the term 'opposition' was not appropriate because the attending figures were invited based on their expertise. Some of the figures who attended included BRIN's Chief Political Researcher Siti Zuhro, former Secretary of the SOEs Ministry Said Didu, and former Chief of the Police Criminal Investigation Department Commissioner General (Ret.) Susno Duadji.
From the government side, Abraham mentioned that the meeting was attended by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. The meeting was also attended by (Ret.) Major General Zacky Anwar Makarim.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that he did not want to refer to them as opposition figures. "There's no opposition. They are figures of the community with whom the President is open to dialogue, to receive input," said Prasetyo at Danantara Residence, South Jakarta, on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
