TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – West Java's Padjadjaran University (Unpad) has expressed concern over allegations of sexual violence involving a faculty member, and said it has taken immediate steps to handle the case in accordance with campus regulations.
Unpad Rector Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita said the university does not tolerate any form of violence, including sexual harassment, within the academic environment.
“As a higher education institution, Unpad is committed to upholding integrity, security, and protection for all members of the academic community,” he said in a statement on Thursday, April 16, 2026. “Any alleged violations will be addressed seriously in accordance with applicable regulations.”
Arief said the university has conducted an initial internal review and, following a comprehensive report, temporarily suspended the faculty member from all academic activities.
He added that Unpad has also initiated formal procedures for handling the allegation, including the formation of an investigative team to ensure an objective and thorough inquiry. The process involves the university’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS) and faculty-level boards.
“If the investigation confirms any violation in the form of sexual violence, Padjadjaran University will impose sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.
He stressed that the university remains committed to prioritizing victim safety and ensuring due process.
“Unpad will carefully examine all evidence through existing mechanisms to avoid any erroneous decisions,” he added.
The rector also called for support from the broader academic community to ensure the effective handling and prevention of violence on campus, saying the university remains open to public input to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
Separately, the Student Executive Boards (BEM) of Padjadjaran University Faculty of Nursing and Unpad said they had received reports circulating on social media alleging sexual violence involving a professor at the Faculty of Nursing identified by the initials IY.
The student bodies said they are coordinating with the university’s PPKS Task Force, the faculty dean, and the rectorate.
In a joint statement, they expressed concern and solidarity with the alleged victim.
“We stress that no form of sexual violence can be justified under any circumstances, and such actions have no place on campus,” they said.
The students also expressed support for the victim and called for full protection, assistance, and recovery measures.
They urged the academic community to prioritize empathy and safety, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from victim-blaming or sharing the victim’s identity.
“Use official reporting channels provided by the university if you experience or become aware of any sexual violence,” they said.
