TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Five Israeli soldiers were injured on Wednesday in a rocket attack by Hezbollah in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military and Hebrew-language media cited by Anadolu Agency.
The Israeli military said one soldier was seriously wounded, while four others sustained minor injuries. All were evacuated for medical treatment following the attack.
Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the incident occurred in Bint Jbeil, where Israeli troops have faced sustained resistance from Hezbollah fighters in recent days. The town is considered one of Hezbollah’s key strongholds in southern Lebanon and has been under Israeli siege.
Separately, Al Jazeera reported that Hezbollah claimed responsibility for two drone attacks targeting Israeli forces near Nahariya in northern Israel.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the group said it struck a logistics base belonging to the Israeli army’s 146th Division using a squadron of attack drones. It also claimed a separate drone strike on an Israeli settlement near the Liman barracks, north of Nahariya.
Israeli forces, meanwhile, continued airstrikes across Lebanon. In the southern town of Mayfadoun, three consecutive attacks reportedly killed four paramedics.
Since March 2, more than 2,000 people, including children, have been killed and around one million displaced in Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli attacks, which escalated following the outbreak of conflict involving Iran. The strikes have continued despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.
In the latest escalation, Israel has signaled its intent to expand operations up to the Litani River, roughly 30 kilometers from the Lebanon-Israel border.
Fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah has persisted even as diplomatic efforts continue. On Tuesday, representatives from Lebanon and Israel held direct talks in Washington, marking the first high-level contact between the two sides in three decades.
The discussions were mediated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who described the meeting as a pivotal step toward de-escalation. The talks involved Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter and Lebanese Ambassador Nada Moawad.
However, Hezbollah officials criticized the talks, calling the engagement between Lebanese and Israeli representatives in Washington “shameful.”
