TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations of the University of Indonesia (UI), Erwin Agustian Panigoro, stated that the deactivation of academic status of the alleged perpetrators of sexual harassment is not the final sanction. Erwin explained that it is part of the administrative process in the examination of 16 students from the UI Law Faculty who were previously suspected of committing sexual violence.
Erwin elaborated that the entire process of handling this case is carried out in accordance with Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024 and University of Indonesia Rector Regulation Number 37 of 2025 regarding Prevention and Handling of Violence within the University of Indonesia.
"The university continues to uphold the principles of presumption of innocence, justice, and protection of the rights of every individual," said Erwin in a written statement received on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026.
In its implementation, UI ensures that the approach used is oriented towards the protection of the victims by providing psychological assistance, legal assistance, and continuous academic support.
"The confidentiality of the identities of all parties is strictly maintained throughout the process," emphasized Erwin.
In connection with this, UI urges all parties not to disseminate unverified information and to avoid speculation that could disrupt the handling process.
"Prudent public support is very important in maintaining the integrity of the process and protecting all parties involved," he said.
"Further developments in this case will be periodically announced through the university's official channels while prioritizing caution, information accuracy, and protection of all parties involved."
