TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has appointed his brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, as the Chairperson of the Task Force for Innovation in National Park Financing and Management. The appointment is formalized under Presidential Decree Number 8 of 2026.
Prior to this role, Hashim, an entrepreneur in the carbon and conservation sectors, has been serving as the Special Envoy of the President for Energy and Climate Change and as Chairperson of the Housing Task Force. The latest decree was issued on April 16, 2026, taking effect immediately upon its stipulation, and places the task force under the direct authority of the President.
According to a copy of the decree obtained by Tempo, the organizational structure of the Task Force for Innovation in National Park Financing and Management includes Hashim Djojohadikusumo as Chairman, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni as Deputy Chair, and Mari Elka Pangestu, Deputy Chair for Investment of the National Economic Council (DEN), also serving as Deputy Chair.
The task force’s membership includes Rohmat Marzuki, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, Wiratno, Willie Smits, Astrio Feligent, Sigfried S. Looho, Irfan Bakhtiar, Aditya Bayunanda, Mohammad Ali Imron, and Robby Royana. These members represent government agencies, academic experts, and environmental organizations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia. Meanwhile, Mahfudz, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, has been appointed as the secretary.
According to the decree, the formation of this task force is intended to bolster the supervision and coordination of financing strategies and investment frameworks for national parks. These initiatives involve mobilizing sustainable financing, protecting the habitats of iconic species, and contributing to the Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 target.
Furthermore, the task force was established to strengthen the role of national parks as protected areas for environmental and ecosystem preservation. This responsibility also covers the maintenance of vital life-support functions, such as water regulation, flood prevention, erosion control, and soil fertility.
The government underscored the necessity of managing national parks sustainably through funding sources that do not rely solely on the State Budget (APBN). This strategy aligns with a previous statement by Raja Juli, who noted that national park financing would increasingly involve the private sector.
According to the minister, the management of Indonesia’s national parks has long been hampered by financial constraints. "As we know, Indonesia has 57 national parks. And I apologize, but so far national parks have been managed as they are, with very minimal funding," he remarked on March 12, 2026.
