TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lion Group confirmed that it is following Indonesian government policy regarding the planned discussion of the upper limit tariff (TBA) for airline tickets as part of efforts to maintain the sustainability of the aviation industry and ensure that air transportation services remain accessible to the wider public.
Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Lion Group's Corporate Communications Strategic Officer, stated that the company continues to coordinate with regulators and various stakeholders to formulate policies that can provide sustainable benefits to the public.
"We continue to coordinate with regulators (government) and stakeholders to formulate policies that are sustainable and can continue to provide benefits to the public," Danang said on the sidelines of the BookCabin Travel Fair press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPW), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), plans to discuss the upper limit tariff (TBA) for airline tickets with the Ministry of Transportation in light of global geopolitical impacts.
According to him, communication with regulators and stakeholders is being built to ensure that every policy implemented supports a balance between the needs of the aviation industry and the interests of service users.
He emphasized that Lion Group respects every decision made by the government and stakeholders as long as the policy supports the sustainability of the national aviation business and the air transportation ecosystem as a whole.
In addition to considering business sustainability, Lion Group also believes that policies related to air fares must continue to consider affordability so that the public can continue to enjoy optimal air transportation services.
The company believes that various discussions regarding air fares, including the TBA and other cost components, need to be conducted through constructive dialogue with regulators and relevant industry players.
Danang added that technical discussions regarding fare policies will continue to be intensively communicated with the government and stakeholders to produce decisions that support both the industry and airline customers.
"Of course, we will discuss these technical matters intensively, communicating intensively with stakeholders, including regulators," he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) ensured that adjustments to the upper limit (TBA) for airline tickets would be carried out in a measured manner, taking into account public conditions and the increase in global energy prices impacted by the Middle East conflict.
"It's not always easy to navigate global dynamics like this, but hopefully the situation will improve and (airline ticket prices) won't be too burdensome for the public," said AHY in Jakarta on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Global conflicts and tensions have a direct impact on rising global energy prices, which in turn impact the operational costs of the air transportation sector and national aviation services as a whole.
As Coordinating Minister for the Ministry of Transportation, AHY stated that the government continues to discuss various policy options with the Ministry of Transportation to ensure ticket price adjustments remain within reasonable and measurable limits.
The government is also coordinating with airlines operating in Indonesia to find the best solution to address operational cost pressures resulting from the current rise in global energy prices.
Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi confirmed that discussions on the upper limit (TBA) for airline tickets will be held with airlines and stakeholders in response to the impact of global geopolitics on aviation operational costs.
In the short term, the Indonesian government will first formulate adjustments to fuel surcharges in response to the increase in aviation fuel prices, which will impact airline operational costs.
"Next, we will talk about the TBA (airline tickets)," said the Minister of Transportation when met after attending a working meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta, Thursday, May 21, 2026.
