TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono expressed support for the establishment of a liaison office for the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the Board of Peace. The office will liaise between the PA and the Board of Peace regarding peace missions in Gaza.
Sugiono conveyed this during a meeting with the Palestinian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on the sidelines of the 61st UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this week.
During the meeting, Sugiono discussed Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace and the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza.
"The main focus of the Indonesian contingent (in the ISF) is civilian protection and humanitarian support," Sugiono said in a written statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
According to Sugiono, the Palestinian Authority has now formed a liaison office to facilitate coordination and communication with the Board of Peace, which oversees the ISF. Communication between the two parties will be conducted within the framework of the Trump-backed 20-point Peace Plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
Sugiono said Indonesia will ensure that the transition process in Palestine aligns with international law principles. He emphasized Indonesia's commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and promoting a credible political process towards the creation of a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel.
Indonesia has committed to sending 8,000 troops to Gaza, more than any other country involved in the ISF. The total combined forces for the mission in Gaza are estimated to reach around 20,000 troops.
The plan was previously announced during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, D.C., which Prabowo attended. The meeting was also attended by the chief commissioner of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), Ali Shaath.
Nickolay Mladenov, the director general of the Board of Peace, stated that the reconstruction of Gaza depends on disarmament. “There is no other option except the full demilitarization and decommissioning of all weapons in Gaza, for reconstruction to begin and for people to have a new way of life going forward,” Mladenov said.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated that the Palestinian group is open to international peacekeeping forces in Gaza. However, he rejects any interference in the internal affairs of the region.
"We want peacekeeping forces that monitor the ceasefire, ensure its implementation, and act as a buffer between the occupation army and our people in the Gaza Strip, without interfering in Gaza's internal affairs," said Qassem, as reported by Al Arabiya.
