TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has revealed the key role of Dewi Astutik, also known as Paryatin, as both a distributor and recruiter in an international drug trafficking network. Dewi is alleged to have targeted Indonesian nationals living in Cambodia to join the operation.

“Paryatin specifically recruited Indonesians in Cambodia who were unemployed, along with associates willing to work as couriers,” BNN Chief Suyudi Ario Seto told Tempo on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Suyudi said Dewi began recruiting couriers in 2023. Those she brought into the network were deployed across multiple countries, including Indonesia, Laos, Hong Kong, South Korea, Brazil, and Ethiopia. The narcotics being distributed also originated from these regions.

The case unfolded after BNN received intelligence locating Dewi in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on November 17, 2025. The agency sent a special team to pursue the suspect.

The team arrived in Cambodia on November 30 and coordinated with the Indonesian Defense Intelligence Agency (BAIS) representative in Phnom Penh, the Indonesian Embassy, and Cambodian police.

Dewi, who was previously linked to the smuggling of two tons of methamphetamine in Indonesia’s Riau Islands, was arrested on Monday afternoon, December 1, while she was with a man.

BNN carried out physical identification checks to confirm the woman’s identity. After verification, Dewi was flown to Indonesia on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to face further legal proceedings.
