TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has updated the Standard Indonesian Field Classification (KBLI) to capture new economic activities. This update comes five years after the release of the KBLI 2020. The KBLI serves as a comprehensive framework for collecting and reporting economic data according to a structured classification.
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the KBLI 2025 was developed with reference to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) released by the United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD). She mentioned that this classification can be further used to generate statistics, conduct economic analyses, formulate policies, and also for business licensing.
Amalia mentioned that in the past five years, new economic activities have emerged that were not covered in the KBLI 2020. "For example, the emergence of new economic activities due to technological developments, such as online health consultation services, online marketplace or shopping platforms, and so on," said Amalia in a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, December 19, 2025.
In addition to digital platform intermediation, BPS also accommodates digital content and creative media activities, such as podcasting, gaming, and streaming. It also accommodates trading, capture, and carbon storage activities, as well as new activities in the financial services sector, such as crypto asset trading.
Furthermore, BPS has added the classification of Factoryless Goods Producers (FGP). FGP refers to companies that outsource their production processes but have intellectual property rights over the products they create. "For example, many skincare companies do not have production machines and thus subcontract to other companies," said Amalia.
The KBLI 2025 has 22 categories (A-V), an increase from the 21 categories (A-U) in the KBLI 2020. The KBLI 2025 is organized into 87 main groups, 257 sub-groups, and 519 subgroups, which are further divided into 1,560 classes. During the development of the KBLI 2025, BPS received 1,164 proposals from 30 ministries and institutions. The KBLI 2025 is regulated under Statistics Indonesia Regulation Number 7 of 2025.
