Prabowo Arrives in Pakistan, Welcomed by the President and Prime Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Nur Khan Airport in Pakistan on Monday, December 8, 2025. The Head of State was welcomed by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

"President Asif Ali Zardari, accompanied by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, welcomed President Prabowo Subianto from the Republic of Indonesia upon arrival at Nur Khan Airbase," the Pakistani Embassy's statement for Indonesia, quoted from its official Instagram account @pakinindonesia, Monday, December 8, 2025.

In the shared photo, Prabowo was seen wearing a gray suit with a black cap. Prabowo appeared to have just descended from the Indonesian Garuda Aircraft and was accompanied by Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif.

Prabowo is scheduled to make a state visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, on December 8-9, 2025. The visit was at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Prabowo's visit to Pakistan is his first state visit during his administration.

"The last presidential visit from Indonesia was undertaken by President Joko Widodo in 2018. The upcoming visit carries added significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia," wrote the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an official statement quoted on Monday, December 8, 2025.

During his stay in Islamabad, Prabowo is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with PM Shehbaz. He will also meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, the Chief of Army Staff & the Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

Both parties will discuss several agendas aimed at strengthening Pakistan-Indonesia relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation. Cooperation in trade, investment, defense, health, information and technology, climate, education, and culture is on the agenda. "As well as enhancing collaboration at regional and global levels. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit," the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that Pakistan and Indonesia have close and friendly relations, built on shared values and interests. Prabowo's visit is seen as an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral partnership and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, supporting sustainable growth and diversification between the two countries.
