Pertamina Ships 20 LPG Tankers to Aceh by Sea as Land Access Remains Severed

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPertamina Patra Niaga is supplying LPG to the northern part of Aceh using a multimodal delivery scheme, which involves transporting tankers by sea. The delivery of LPG tanks by sea is due to disrupted land routes caused by flooding in Sumatra.

Integrated Terminal Manager Lhokseumawe Ari Yunanto stated that Pertamina is sending 20 skid tank trucks or LPG tanker trucks to various areas in the northern part of Aceh, including Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Pidie Jaya, and Meulaboh, via sea routes. Two large vessels, Aceh Hebat 2 and Wira Louisa, are used to transport the skid tank trucks.

"Due to the recent natural disaster, the eastern route from Lhokseumawe to Banda Aceh was cut off at the Kuta Blang Bridge and the Meureudu Bridge. This has disrupted the distribution of LPG supplied from IT Lhokseumawe-LPG Arun to the areas of Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Pidie Jaya, and Meulaboh," Ari said in a written statement on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Ari hopes these efforts will meet the needs of people in northern Aceh. He also urged the public to remain calm and not to panic. The state-owned energy company is making every effort to ensure the availability and smooth supply of both LPG and fuel in Aceh.

The team continues to coordinate with various parties to support the smooth implementation of sea transportation. This ensures that LPG is distributed and supplied to Banda Aceh via multiple modes.

From Banda Aceh, the LPG tanker trucks will head to the Bulk LPG Filling and Transportation Station (SPPBE), where the LPG is further transferred to storage tanks and then filled into LPG cylinders before being distributed to agents and depots in the Banda Aceh area and its surroundings. "So we ask the public to be patient and wait for the LPG supply through this multimodal means," Ari said.

Area Manager Communication, Relations, and CSR of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagut, Fahrougi Andriani Sumampouw, stated that Pertamina supplies energy through various modes of transportation. "All Pertamina personnel are also on standby to meet the needs of the people, as part of Pertamina's commitment to maintaining energy resilience, including in the most challenging regions," Fahrougi said.
