TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) estimates that life insurance claims for policyholders affected by the floods in Sumatra will reach Rp100 billion. "The initial estimate is around Rp50-100 billion," said the Chair of the AAJI Board of Directors, Budi Tampubolon, when met at the AAJI office in Jakarta on Monday, December 8, 2025.
Budi explained that the policyholder's money will be distributed directly to the appointed heirs. The amount that Budi mentioned for victims in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra may vary from person to person.
However, according to Budi, life insurance claims do not cover hospital healthcare costs. This is because insurance costs per person vary depending on hospital treatments, procedures, and medications.
"If there are victims who succumb to the disaster, their families will be directly impacted financially, so it must be paid directly to their families," said Budi.
Budi stated that the total life insurance coverage value for all policyholders in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra is estimated to reach trillions of rupiah. Of course, only those who comply with the insurance policy provisions can be disbursed.
As is known, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported today that the death toll from floods and landslides in the three provinces has reached 961. In addition, the number of injuries is five thousand people, and there are still 293 missing persons.
Budi mentioned that the AAJI issued a circular to its members, urging them to be proactive with policyholders who may be affected by the floods. Those who intend to claim are asked to find the best solution if they encounter document requirements. "We cannot force, but we urge AAJI members to please find a solution," he said.
