TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The schedule of the Indonesian U-17 national team will once again be present tonight, precisely in the early hours of Friday, April 11, 2025. Bima Sakti's troops will face Afghanistan in the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup taking place in Saudi Arabia. The match between the two teams will kick off at 00:15 WIB (Western Indonesia Time) and will be broadcasted live by RCTI and GTV.
Indonesia will enter this match having already secured a place in the quarter-finals. This advancement simultaneously ensures that the Garuda Muda secures a spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025.
Indonesian U-17 national team coach Nova Arianto has asked the players to remain focused during each match, despite already clinching a place in the next round. "We are certainly grateful to have secured a spot in the World Cup, and now, just like when we first arrived here, I ask the players to remain focused on each game. We do not want to think about whether we have qualified for the World Cup, or if we have to win the group or reach the final. I do not think about that too much," said Coach Nova, quoted from an audio recording on Tuesday.
Nova stated that every match is crucial for his team. Therefore, he urges his team to remain focused. "We never consider Afghanistan to be beneath or above us. But I ask for the players to maintain the same level of focus, and I want to see once again that all the players can perform well against Afghanistan, and we can achieve the best possible result," he said.
Coach Nova then emphasized that the players must quickly forget about the success of qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025. "I tell the players to forget the euphoria of qualifying for the World Cup, and I want to see the players' focus remain the same as before we qualified for the World Cup. Of course, I ask the players to remain focused on what we have planned game by game, and when facing Afghanistan, we will see what the players can do, and I hope we can achieve the best result," he said.
Afghanistan is currently confirmed to be eliminated from the competition for a place in the quarter-finals. They occupy the bottom position in Group C with zero points.
To face Afghanistan, Coach Nova stated that he will not change the team formation, although they may employ a different playing strategy compared to the two previous opponents. "If it's the same, then our formation will remain 3-4-3, and indeed, the playing style will be different because once again, facing Korea and facing Yemen will definitely have different gameplay because we can assess the quality, individual skill, and physicality. Korea is certainly superior in every aspect, but I say that it's the game we set up," said the former player of PSIS Semarang and Persib Bandung.
