TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) hopes that the Israeli and United States attacks on Iran will not have a serious impact on the aviation sector.
"We remain vigilant. I think this is something we must be able to mitigate, including hopefully not disrupting flights too much," he said when met after the peak of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Jakarta, Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Nevertheless, he is confident that global airlines will consider the risks, including passenger safety.
"Airlines will also recalculate the number one factor, safety. Because we can never predict the trajectory, especially when it involves war, especially when missiles are used, long-range missiles," he said.
He also hopes that this geopolitical issue will end soon, as otherwise, it could lead to secondary problems such as humanitarian tragedy, security issues, and challenges to the global economy, including in Southeast Asia.
"Once again, we hope this will end soon. Because this will result not only in a humanitarian tragedy, but also in various serious challenges in the economic sector, including global energy," he said.

On Saturday morning, Israel launched attacks on civilian sites and vital infrastructure in Tehran and several other cities, violating the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The US and Israeli attacks on Iran violate Article 2, paragraph (4) of the UN Charter and constitute a clear act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran also views Washington and Tel Aviv's actions as a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
Responding to such aggression constitutes Iran's legitimate right to retaliate under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the statement further stated.
The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will exercise this right to the fullest extent possible to defend the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran by providing a firm and forceful response to the aggression by the Zionist regime of Israel and the US, the statement said.
