TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 1.39 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in September 2025, a 7.33 percent decrease compared to the previous month. However, on an annual basis, the number still grew by 9.04 percent compared to September 2024.

Deputy of Statistics Distribution and Services at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, explained that out of the total visits, 1,219,156 tourists entered through the main entrances such as Soekarno-Hatta Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. Meanwhile, 175,754 tourists entered through land border crossings.

"Cumulatively, from January to September 2025, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 11.43 million visits, an increase of 10.22 percent compared to the same period last year," said Pudji in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, November 3, 2025.

From the nationality perspective, Pudji continued, tourists from Malaysia were the most to visit Indonesia, contributing 19.5 percent, followed by Australia (11.7 percent) and Singapore (8.5 percent). Compared to August 2025, there was an increase in visits from Malaysia and Australia, and a decrease in visits from Singapore.

Pudji stated that visits from Malaysia, Australia, and China increased annually. BPS noted that Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali remained the main entry point for foreign tourists, with the largest group being Australian tourists. "However, in September 2025, there was a decrease in visits through Ngurah Rai Airport, which is estimated to be due to the end of holiday seasons in some tourists' home countries," she said.

As for foreign tourists' expenses, the average expenditure in the third quarter of 2025 reached US$1,297.31 per visit. This expenditure increased compared to the previous quarter. However, Pudji mentioned that the average expenditure decreased compared to the third quarter of 2024.

Meanwhile, the average length of stay for foreign tourists in the third quarter of 2025 was recorded at 10.7 nights, or almost 11 nights. The largest expenditure composition still consisted of accommodation (37.31 percent), followed by food and beverages (19.40 percent), and shopping and souvenirs (10.98 percent). "This expenditure pattern has not changed much compared to the previous quarter," said Pudji.
