TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso stated that the limited supply of Minyakita in the market does not indicate a shortage of cooking oil. "I went to modern retailers yesterday, and there is plenty of cooking oil. So, there is no scarcity of cooking oil," said Budi at JIEXpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

He mentioned that Minyakita is more limited in supply compared to commercial cooking oil. This is because the production of cheap cooking oil is the result of palm oil entrepreneurs fulfilling domestic obligations.

Budi also mentioned that the market still offers second-brand and premium cooking oils as alternatives to Minyakita. "People say that cooking oil is expensive, and there is a shortage of cooking oil. However, there are many alternatives like second-brand cooking oil," he said.

Regarding the supply of Minyakita, Budi contacted the President Director of ID Food, Ghimoyo, about the producer's obligation to distribute a minimum of 35 percent of oil for Minyakita. He mentioned that the Ministry of Trade will facilitate business-to-business (B2B) if there are plans to increase the supply of Minyakita to 65-70 percent. "Many private distributors are also operating. So, everything is running smoothly without any issue," said the PAN party politician.

Despite stating that there is no shortage of supply, Budi admitted that the price of cooking oil is currently increasing due to the plastic packaging crisis.

Data from the Ministry of Trade shows that the current price of Minyakita is at Rp15,974 per liter, an increase of 0.03 percent compared to April 15, 2026. There is also an increase in the price of premium cooking oil, which is currently at Rp21,706 per liter, a 0.06 percent daily increase.

The price of cooking oil in bulk is now Rp 19,437 per liter, which is a 0.18 percent increase from yesterday.
