TEMPO.CO, Jakarta A WhatsApp post claims an Iranian nuclear device detonated in Israel on March 15, 2026. The clip depicts a massive explosion within a cityscape, followed by a rising plume of black smoke.

On Threads and Instagram, similar footage is being framed as the aftermath of an Iranian Kheibar missile deploying a thermobaric warhead. These posts emerged amid the intensifying armed conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Does this video truly show Iran deploying a nuclear or thermobaric weapon in its strike against Israel?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the footage through manual analysis, AI detection software, and cross-referencing with credible sources. The investigation confirmed that while Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against Israel, no nuclear weapons have been deployed in the conflict that erupted on February 28. The footage was identified as the product of artificial intelligence technology.

AI-Generated Video

Tempo identified two visual anomalies within the clip. First, the structural geometry of the window bars on the building to the right shifts drastically between the first and fourth seconds. Second, the flow of street traffic remains eerily undisturbed, moving smoothly despite a massive explosion leveling the surrounding urban area. This lack of physical synchrony is a signature flaw of generative AI.

Technical analysis using the AI detection tool, Image Whisperer, flagged a screenshot of the video as AI content. The software identified synthetic patterns within the rendering of the explosion's dust clouds.

Further assessment via the Zhuque AI Detection Assistant yielded a high probability score of 76.31 percent for AI generation. Meanwhile, the Bitmind forensic tool returned an even more definitive score of 96 percent.

This identical video previously circulated in Syria with false claims regarding an explosion at the Port of Haifa. The fact-checking organization Verify also confirmed the content was entirely artificial.

No Evidence of Iranian Nuclear Use

According to Scientific American, experts maintain there is no evidence that Iran could develop a functional nuclear weapon within a two-to-four-week window. This specific accusation was recently leveled by United States President Donald Trump via his Truth Social account on March 10, 2026.

Since the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear accord in 2018, Iran has enriched uranium to 60 percent. Reports indicate Iran has not yet reached the 90 percent enrichment threshold required for an atomic bomb.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) data from June 2025 shows Iran held 441 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium. Transitioning to 90 percent remains a formidable hurdle due to technical complexity and international oversight.

According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Israel and U.S. assets in the Gulf have utilized only ballistic and cruise missiles. Iran’s most advanced ballistic missiles possess a range of 2,000 to 2,500 kilometers.

While this range allows Iran to strike Israel and regional U.S. bases in the Middle East, it cannot reach the American mainland—refuting claims made by Trump. In 2023, the Iranian military tested a domestic Fajr-5 missile equipped with a thermobaric warhead. This weapon utilizes atmospheric oxygen to generate a high-temperature blast, distinct from nuclear fission.

CONCLUSION

Tempo’s investigation concludes that the claim regarding a video showing an Iranian nuclear bomb in Israel is false. The content is a documented fabrication created through artificial intelligence technology.
