TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has revealed that crude oil from Russia will soon enter Indonesia as part of efforts to maintain the national energy supply amid global geopolitical dynamics. This was stated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, after attending an IPB University alumni event in Jakarta on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Bahlil explained that this step is part of a commitment to import 150 million barrels of oil from Russia, to be carried out gradually until the end of 2026. He stated that the government prioritizes the availability of all fuel types to meet public and industrial demand.
"For me, the most important thing is that all our stock is available. And the (crude oil) from Russia will be entering soon," said Bahlil, as quoted by Antara.
Regarding the mechanism and price of Russian crude oil, Bahlil mentioned that the details remain a business-to-business (B2B) matter. In addition to crude oil, the government is opening opportunities to import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia. However, this plan is still in the discussion stage.
Nevertheless, Bahlil ensured that the national LPG stock currently remains above the minimum limit. "Until now, our LPG stock is all above the national minimum standard."
During the occasion, Bahlil did not provide detailed information on the specific volume of Russian crude oil arriving soon or which domestic refineries would process it. What is certain, he said, is that the government focuses on ensuring the availability of various fuels, from diesel to gasoline of various octane ratings, amid turbulent global conditions.
According to Bahlil, in the current geopolitical climate, countries must prioritize energy security before taking further steps on other energy policies. "In a situation like this, the country must ensure the availability of all types of fuel oil. That is far more important."
