TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four photos claiming that a businessman from West Sumatra, M. Hasbi Al-Khairi, donated trillions of rupiah to Iran have been circulating on social media since late March 2026. The posts spread across Instagram [archive], Facebook, Threads, TikTok, and YouTube.

The images show a man in a suit handing over stacks of cash to a military official. However, the man’s face differs from one photo to another. The donation amounts mentioned are also inconsistent, ranging from Rp512 trillion to Rp548 trillion.

But are the claims in these photos true?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the content through reverse image searches, keyword tracing, manual analysis, and AI detection tools. The result: the images are products of artificial generation. The name M. Hasbi Al-Khairi is also not found in any list of Indonesian businessmen.

Tempo identified a number of irregularities in the images. In the first photo, there are two 500-denomination banknotes in different colors that do not resemble Iranian rials, Indonesian rupiah, or US dollars.

Analysis using AI or Not produced a score of 89 percent indicating the content was generated using AI. The likely AI models used include Nano Banana, Flux, and OpenAI’s 4o. Meanwhile, Was It AI also stated that the images are synthetic.

The second photo features the logo of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), but it deviates from the original version as seen on Iranintl.com. AI or Not detected 74 percent AI-generated elements, while Was It AI concluded with high confidence that the image is not authentic.

The AI or Not tool generated a score of 74 percent AI elements, likely created using the Nano Banana model. Was It AI, with high confidence, also concluded that the image is not a real photograph.

The same applies to the third image. AI or Not gave an AI element score of 87 percent, identifying Nano Banana and OpenAI’s 4o model at 26 percent. The Was It AI tool also stated with high confidence that the content is AI-generated.

AI or Not indicated that the fourth image contains 100 percent AI elements. Most of the models used were identified as Flux. The Was It AI tool further reinforced this conclusion.

Iran Embassy Opens Donations Amid US-Israel Tensions

Tempo noted that the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia has indeed opened a fundraising initiative to respond to military aggression by Israel and the United States, as well as the impacts of the war, since February 28, 2026.

However, there are no authoritative sources stating that an Indonesian businessman has donated hundreds of trillions of rupiah to Iran. Previously, the name M. Hasbi Al-Khairi had also appeared in a hoax about an Iranian military technician, which Tempo had proven to be artificially generated.

CONCLUSION

Tempo’s verification concludes that the claim of a Rp500 trillion donation by an Indonesian businessman to Iran is false. The photos presented as supporting evidence are also AI-generated.
