BMKG Forecasts Heavy Rain Still Possible in Two Regions as Dry Season Starts

15 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As May begins, more areas in Indonesia are starting the dry season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that around 21 percent of the Seasonal Zone (ZOM) in Indonesian territory is beginning the dry season, an increase from two percent in mid-April.

"This condition indicates a decrease in the potential for rain," stated BMKG in the Weekly Weather Outlook for the Period of May 2-8, 2025, updated on Thursday evening, May 1, 2025.

Along with this, BMKG revealed that people in several regions have begun to complain about the hot weather. However, BMKG also added that the maximum air temperature observations in Indonesian territory generally remain below 35.5 degrees Celsius.

BMKG explained, "The relatively high air humidity and fairly low wind speed make the air temperature feel higher than recorded."

But don't ignore the possibility of heavy rain just yet. BMKG's analysis and prediction of atmospheric dynamics show that there are still several factors supporting raincloud formation near Indonesian territory.

BMKG's data revealed that in the past three days, heavy rains were still observed in several regions, such as Riau (85 mm/day), North Sumatra (59 mm/day), Jambi, and Bangka Belitung (51 mm/day). Moderate rains have also been observed in parts of Sumatra, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, North Maluku, West Papua, and South Papua.

The BMKG forecast for East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan is still for the possibility of heavy rain for the next week. However, this is only for May 2-4. From May 5-8, potential is zero throughout Indonesia. The possibility of strong winds is scattered over East Nusa Tenggara and Maluku in the next week, and West Java, East Java, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara for May 5-8.
