Valencia Coach Fernando Martin Dies in Indonesia Boat Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Valencia Women's B team coach, Fernando Martin Carreras, along with his three children, was killed in a boat accident in the Komodo National Park area, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, on Friday, December 26, 2025.

His wife, Andrea Ortuno, and their seven-year-old daughter survived the accident.

Spanish club Real Madrid offered condolences for the Valencia coach's passing, in a statement on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

"Real Madrid C. F., its president and Board of Directors are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Fernando Martín, Valencia C. F. Women's B coach, and three of his children, in the tragic boat accident in Indonesia," the statement read.

Real Madrid also expressed "its horror and extend its condolences and deepest affection" to Fernando Martin's wife, Andrea, and their daughter, Mar, who reportedly survived the accident.

"Likewise, we send our condolences to all of his family and loved ones, and the whole Valencia family," it added.

Citing a report from Antara on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the head of the Class III Labuan Bajo Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), Stephanus Risqiyanto, revealed that the accident involving phinisi tourist boat Putri Sakkinah occurred after it was struck by high waves. 

"The waves suddenly swell 2-3 meters within a short period, only half to one hour, which made it difficult for us to conduct initial searches," Stephanus said in Labuan Bajo on Saturday.

He explained that the tourist boat carried eleven passengersseven Spanish tourists, four crew members, and a tour guidewhen it experienced engine failure and sank. 

Stephanus said the boat was taking the tourists on a trip to Kalong Island in Komodo National Park. After, they moved to nearby Padar Island for a Saturday morning trek. But the boat capsized before they reached the island.

Seven people were found alive in initial rescue efforts, including four crew members, a tour guide, and two passengers. Four other passengers were declared missing. The four were coach Fernando Martin Carreras and his three children.
