TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Odesa injured at least 13 people early Thursday, Ukrainian officials said, as the war approaches its fifth winter, accroding to DW.
An air raid alert was issued in Kyiv early Thursday over the threat of missile strikes, with authorities urging residents to seek shelter.
At least 10 people were injured in the capital, according to officials. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said apartment buildings and warehouses were damaged in the strikes, while debris fell near a gas station.
Witnesses cited by Reuters and AFP reported hearing strong explosions in Kyiv.
In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, at least three people were injured after a Russian strike hit a 19-story apartment building, local authorities said. A child was among those wounded.
Russia and Ukraine have stepped up their use of long-range missiles in recent months, alongside continued drone attacks targeting areas inside each other's territory.
Russia, Ukraine Signal Readiness for More Talks
The latest strikes came as Russia and Ukraine have signaled a willingness to resume negotiations under US mediation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office said earlier this week that officials were preparing for talks in October. Moscow has also said it has not ruled out another round of negotiations.
The most recent trilateral talks were held in January and February 2026 in Abu Dhabi and Geneva but failed to produce a breakthrough. Control of territory in eastern Ukraine remained a key unresolved issue.
