TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Royal Navy warship of the United Kingdom, His Majesty's Ship (HMS) Richmond, berthed at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The arrival of HMS Richmond was welcomed with an official ceremony attended by the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, and Rear Admiral Agam Endrasmoro representing the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL).

"Today, we welcome the HMS Richmond, a British Royal Navy ship. You (Royal Navy) are very welcome here in Jakarta," said Jermey in his speech at the shipyard.

Jermey expressed that this visit signifies Britain's commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with Indonesia.

"HMS Richmond's visit demonstrates the UK's commitment to building a strong partnership with Indonesia while deepening economic, defense, and security relations in the Indo-Pacific region," he said.

Jermey explained that HMS Richmond's visit also coincides with the celebration of King Charles III's birthday and Jakarta's 498th anniversary.

"It is indeed a very opportune moment to celebrate the great collaboration between Indonesia and the UK," he added.

As the HMS Richmond docked, the ship's commander, Commander Richard Kemp, received a flower garland as a form of welcome. The welcoming event was enlivened with traditional Indonesian dances, ondel-ondel puppets, and a military marching band from the UK.

For your information, HMS Richmond will stay in Jakarta until July 1, 2025. The ship is a part of the fleet accompanying the HMS Prince of Wales, the aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy.

This is the second visit for HMS Richmond. Previously, the ship had docked in Jakarta in October 2021. At that time, the ship's crew could not disembark due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
