TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo expressed relief and confidence over Erick Thohir’s appointment as his successor for the 2025–2029 term.
“I feel relieved because the new minister is someone whose credentials in the sports world are unquestionable,” Dito said during the official handover ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Reflecting on his time in office, Dito acknowledged Erick’s significant influence on his own career. “I am truly a product of Erick Thohir’s guidance in sports. Don’t worry, our leadership styles may be similar, but he might be tougher since he’s from Lampung, while I’m from Solo,” he remarked.
Dito also highlighted the role of Deputy Minister Taufik Hidayat during his 11 months in office under President Prabowo Subianto. He praised the badminton legend as one of the best deputy ministers in the Red and White Cabinet.
“Even when we had different views, we always settled things through discussion. Minister Erick should be grateful to have such a principled and supportive deputy,” Dito said.
Looking back at his achievements, Dito pointed to the continuation of former minister Zainudin Amali’s program, which boosted performance benefits by 70 percent. He expressed optimism that under Erick’s leadership, the benefits could rise further.
“We continuously strengthen the ministry’s human resources through education and training. Strong human resources are essential if we want to advance the youth and sports sectors,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by several former Youth and Sports Ministers, including Adhyaksa Dault (2004–2009), Andi Alfian Mallarangeng (2009–2012), Agung Laksono (2012–2013), Roy Suryo (2013–2014), and Zainudin Amali (2019–2023).
