The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:

1. Economists Warn of Potential Risks in Rupiah Redenomination Plan

Economist Syafruddin Karimi from Andalas University believes that the planned redenomination is a form of the Indonesian government's failure to prioritize essential measures, such as improving national productivity in pursuit of the 8 percent economic growth target. "Indonesia does not need the illusion of stability in the form of a new denomination. Indonesia needs a meaningful growth reality for the people," said Syafruddin in a written statement on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Redenomination is the reduction or simplification of the currency value without affecting its exchange rate. The discussion about changing the name of the rupiah is outlined in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 70/2025, which details the Ministry of Finance's strategic plan for 2025-2029.

2. Criticism Mounts as Soeharto is Officially Named Indonesia's National Hero

The Indonesian public is protesting the granting of the national hero title to former president Soeharto. Civil society from various backgrounds believe that President Prabowo Subianto should not have bestowed the title upon his former father-in-law, who had a dark record during his 32 years in power.

The criticism from the public had begun even before Soeharto was awarded the national hero title. Activists and academics had rejected the idea since Soeharto's name was proposed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Honors and Awards Council.

Now, after the former president officially bears the national hero title, more and more people are rejecting it. Criticisms continue to pour in. Tempo has gathered some of them.

3. Indonesia's U-17 National Team Beat Honduras, Recording Its First Victory in the U-17 World Cup

The U-17 Indonesia national team secured a victory in the final match of Group H's preliminary round at the 2025 U-17 World Cup by defeating Honduras 2-1 at Lapangan 7 Aspire Academy, Doha, Qatar, on Monday night, November 10, 2025. However, this result leaves a very slim chance for advancing to the round of 32.

Currently, Indonesia is not among the list of eight best third-place teams, despite having three points similar to some other teams due to a goal difference of -5, worse than Mexico (-2) which secured the last ticket on this path. Previously, the Young Garudas team lost 1-3 to Zambia and 0-4 to Brazil.

Indonesia stands a chance of advancing if Saudi Arabia loses 0-6 to Mali in the final match of Group L or if Paraguay loses by a large margin to Ireland in Group J. These two matches are scheduled to be played on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
