TAUD Files Pretrial Motion in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has filed a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court over what it says is a stalled investigation into the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus.

The legal team argues that the investigation by the Jakarta Metro Police has not progressed and is seeking judicial review of the handling of the case.

“In this application, we are summoning the Jakarta Metro Police Chief and also the Director of General Crime Investigation of the Jakarta Metro Police as respondents,” TAUD representative Alif Fauzi Nurwidiastomo said at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Alif said the police initially opened an investigation based on a model A report, but the process stalled after the case was transferred to the Indonesian Military Police Center (Puspom TNI). He also said TAUD, as legal counsel for Andrie, was never formally informed of any termination of the investigation.

He added that two reports are currently linked to the case. The first is the model A report filed immediately after the incident, while the second is a model B report submitted by TAUD to the Criminal Investigation Agency of the National Police, which has also since been transferred to the Jakarta Metro Police.

Earlier, the Jakarta Metro Police said it no longer has authority over the case after it was handed over to Puspom TNI.

“We reaffirm that the case files have been transferred. And currently, the authority of the Jakarta Metro Police investigators has reached that point,” Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head Sr. Comr. Budi Hermanto said on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

He added that evidence had also been submitted to the military police. “Handing over the investigation results and the evidence digitally,” he said.

TAUD has criticized the decision to transfer the case—described as a violent attack on a civilian—to a military institution. Muhammad Isnur, chair of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), said the investigation should not have been limited to only the two alleged field perpetrators.

Based on findings from an independent civil society investigation team, at least 16 people are suspected to be involved in the attack.

“(The police) have not revealed at all who ordered it, the intellectual actors, who funded it, and the operation,” Isnur said at the House of Representatives complex after a meeting with Commission III on March 31, 2026.

Andrie, deputy external coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was attacked with acid by two unidentified assailants on March 12, 2026 at around 11:37 p.m. on Talang Street I, Central Jakarta.

He was taken to Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital shortly after midnight on March 13, 2026, suffering burns on more than 20 percent of his body, including his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, as well as vision impairment in his right eye.
