Purbaya: Indonesia on Track to Meet Rp3,153.6tn Revenue Goal

1 hour ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed optimism that the government will meet its 2026 state revenue target of Rp3,153.6 trillion, citing improvements in the tax and customs systems, including the implementation of the Coretax platform.

Purbaya said reforms in taxation and customs and excise administration have contributed to stronger state revenue performance this year.

“Protests from taxpayers still exist, but they have declined. Coretax’s performance has significantly increased tax revenue,” Purbaya said after attending Eid al-Adha prayers at the mosque of the Directorate General of Taxes headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

According to him, the digital tax administration system developed by the Ministry of Finance has automated much of the tax calculation process, making it more difficult for taxpayers to avoid their obligations.

“This is what has significantly boosted tax revenue compared to the previous year,” he said.

Purbaya also said he is confident the government can achieve this year’s revenue target through continued restructuring in the taxation and customs sectors. The government, he added, will continue to maximize the use of technology to strengthen state income.

The Ministry of Finance is also preparing to optimize the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the Directorate General of Taxes and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to improve revenue collection.

“So far, this year’s target looks achievable,” he said.

Based on Finance Ministry data as of April 2026, state revenue reached Rp918.4 trillion, up 13 percent compared to the same period last year.

The increase was driven mainly by stronger tax collection, which rose 16.1 percent year-on-year. The growth was supported by a 25 percent increase in individual income tax revenue and a 21 percent rise in employee income tax (PPh 21), along with a 40 percent surge in Value Added Tax (VAT) and luxury goods sales tax revenue.

Under the 2026 State Budget, the government has targeted Rp3,153.6 trillion in state revenue and Rp3,842.7 trillion in state spending. The budget deficit is therefore projected at Rp689.1 trillion, equivalent to 2.68 percent of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
