TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto praised Army Chief of Staff Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak and National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, saying their performance, service and capabilities had justified their rise to the top positions in their respective institutions.
Prabowo made the remarks during a virtual address from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, as he officiated the completion of 3,395 bridges built by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police, along with 3,000 clean water sources constructed by the Army in Bayah, Lebak Regency, Banten.
“I believe that a soldier like Maruli Simanjuntak becoming the highest-ranking officer in the Army is deserved based on his work and service. I also believe that Gen. Listyo reaching the highest position in the police force is deserved because of his achievements, service and capabilities,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo Says Public Service Is Closely Observed
Prabowo said he had followed Maruli’s various initiatives even before he became Army chief. He added that the work and public service carried out by individuals, officials and leaders would ultimately be noticed and remembered by the public.
“All good deeds, all good service by individuals, officials and leaders are actually monitored, observed, recorded and remembered by the people. Remember that,” Prabowo said.
Praise Comes Amid Military, Police Infrastructure Projects
Prabowo’s remarks came as he highlighted TNI and police efforts to develop basic infrastructure, including bridges and clean water facilities, for communities.
He said Maruli and Listyo had demonstrated an understanding of leadership through initiatives that provided direct benefits to the public.
“We have worked together, and you have understood what it means to be a leader. You have understood how fulfilling it is when we can do something meaningful for our people,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo was accompanied by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya during the virtual address.
