TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed this year's Hajj pilgrimage to proceed despite the conflict in the Middle East.
The country's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is urged to prioritize pilgrims' safety, according to Minister Mochamad Irfan Yusuf.
Prabowo said that "as long as no statement was released by Saudi Arabia that prevents pilgrims' departure, Insha'Allah Indonesia will carry on with it," the minister quoted on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Irfan also ensured that the Ministry of Hajj is committed on the security and safety of Indonesian pilgrims in the Holy Land; during their departure, Hajj procession, and return to Indonesia.
Additionally, the government also ensures the security of logistics to support pilgrims' activities.
The Gerindra Party politician explained that the 2026 Hajj begins with the pilgrims gathering in dormitories on April 21.
The next day, on April 22, the first wave of pilgrims will depart for Saudi Arabia, with flights bound for Medina before continuing to Mecca. "The President is expected to attend the send-off of the first group of pilgrims on April 22," Irfan said.
Meanwhile, the second wave is planned to start flying on May 7 to Jeddah, then continue to Mecca.
Irfan targets all Indonesian pilgrims to be in the Holy Land by May 21, 2026. "The peak of the Hajj is estimated to be on May 25 to 26 in Arafah," Irfan said.
Meanwhile, the first group of the Hajj pilgrimage will return to Indonesia from June 1 until July 1, 2026.
