TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian public donations for the people of Iran have surpassed Rp9.06 billion as of mid-April 2026. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia has recorded tens of thousands of Indonesian citizens participating in the fundraising drive since it opened in March.

Through an official Instagram post on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Iranian Embassy shared a report on the fundraising efforts and expressed its gratitude to the Indonesian people. "By expressing sincere gratitude and appreciation to all fellow believers, the noble Indonesian people, as well as all friends and supporters of the Iranian people, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia hereby presents a report on the process of raising public assistance to the public," the embassy team wrote.

Extensive Public Participation

The Embassy explained that the donation drive began on March 17, 2026, through an official account at Bank BRI. The public response was described as extensive. As of April 14, 2026, it was recorded that 24,369 individuals had participated, with the total funds reaching Rp9,069,280,661. "Alhamdulillah, this humanitarian initiative has received a widespread and extraordinary response from the Indonesian people," the announcement stated.

According to the embassy team, this participation reflects the deep solidarity and humanitarian concern between Indonesia and Iran. Donations will remain open until April 30, 2026, before being channeled through the Indonesian Red Cross to the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Support Since the Beginning of the Conflict

Previously, the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, also expressed his appreciation for the support pouring in from various sectors of Indonesian society. The statement was delivered via a video uploaded to the embassy's official Instagram account on March 18, 2026.

He mentioned that the support came not only from organizations but also from individuals. "I have received so many messages from various parties, sending thousands of letters and coming directly to the embassy to express condolences for the martyred leader, congratulate the new leader, and also condemn the attacks from the United States and Israel," he said.

As reported by Anadolu, the joint attack by Israel and the United States was reported to have begun on February 28, 2026. More than 3,000 people were reported to have been killed in the strikes across various regions of Iran since late February, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Additionally, more than 10,000 people were reported to have been injured.

This situation has triggered a global wave of sympathy, including from Indonesia, leading to various public initiatives for humanitarian fundraising.
