TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, said his team is preparing several traffic diversion scenarios for the Eid homecoming return flow, including by reinstating the one-way traffic policy.
"Since the return flow is quite substantial, we are preparing for it," Agus said on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Indonesian police had previously stopped the one-way traffic scheme for Eid homecoming traffic on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that the homecoming return flow is expected to occur in two periods. "On March 24 and on March 28-29," he said during the same occasion.
Aan advised homebound travelers to schedule their return to avoid overcrowding on the predicted exodus peak, especially after the government's work-from-anywhere (WFA) for workers.
The police have conducted Operation Ketupat 2026 from March 13-25, 2026. Several traffic diversion plans for the homecoming and homebound flow of Eid al-Fitr 2026 have been prepared. Some of these include the one-way scheme, contraflow, arrangements at rest areas, and restrictions on three-axle vehicles.
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that traffic diversion strategies are still considered effective in reducing the potential congestion during the homecoming and homebound flow of Eid al-Fitr.
"Providing recommendations and refraining from ticketing, delaying systems in crossing areas, and redirecting traffic are the diversion strategies that we will implement," said Sigit on Monday, March 2, 2026.
