TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Harli Siregar, Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General's Office, announced that nonactive Jak TV news director Tian Bahtiar, a suspect in the alleged obstruction of an investigation, is now under city detention. Harli explained that this decision was made due to Tian's poor health.

"TB's (Tian Bahtiar) detention status has been changed to city detention since Thursday afternoon, due to health reasons," Harli stated when contacted on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Tian was previously held at the Salemba detention center branch of the Attorney General's Office since April 21, 2025. The Attorney General's Office had initially detained Tian there for a period of 20 days during the investigative process.

Investigators from the Attorney General's Office have named Tian, along with lawyers Marcella Santoso and Junaeidi Saebih, as suspects for allegedly conspiring to impede the investigation into the PT Timah corruption case and sugar imports.

During the inquiry, the Attorney General's High Profile Case Rescuer reportedly discovered evidence of Marcella requesting Junaeidi to fabricate a negative narrative concerning the Attorney General's Office. They then allegedly enlisted Tian to disseminate this narrative.

Furthermore, Abdul reportedly indicated that MS and JS provided funding for demonstrations and seminars as part of an effort to undermine the investigation, prosecution, and presentation of evidence in ongoing cases at the Attorney General's Office's trial.

A formal request to modify Tian's detention to house arrest was previously submitted by the Press Council to the Attorney General's Office. "To facilitate the Press Council's examination," stated Ninik Rahayu, Chairperson of the Press Council, in a written statement on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Ninik elaborated that the Press Council will scrutinize the content of the news produced and distributed by Tian Bahtiar. This undertaking aims to ascertain whether the content adheres to established journalistic standards.
