TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nearly 50 years since its release, 'Thriller' showcases its power once again as it re-enters the charts. But its return defines beyond just a resurgence, but also cements Michael Jackson as the first artist with top 10 hits in six different decades: the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, ’10s, and now the ’20s.
As remarkable as this new milestone is, Michael Jackson has long been synonymous with chart success. According to Billboard, he first entered the Hot 100’s top 10 as a solo artist in November 1971 with his debut single “Got to Be There.”
In total, he has scored 30 top 10 hits, including 13 No. 1s such as “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Man in the Mirror,” as Variety and Rolling Stone highlight.
The song’s re-entry follows the 2025 Halloween season, a period during which 'Thriller' always shines thanks to its iconic horror-themed storyline.
Riding that seasonal wave, Jackson now surpasses Andy Williams, the previous record-holder, who earned top 10 placements across five decades.
As of now, 'Thriller' has seen a major resurgence: streaming numbers are up by 57% to 14 million, while radio airplay has jumped 124% to a 9.3 million audience, alongside 3,000 units sold in the US.
Adding to its distinction, 'Thriller' stands as Michael Jackson’s longest-charting Hot 100 hit, having spent 26 weeks on the chart, or one week longer than “Beat It” and “Billie Jean.”
