TEMPO.CO, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia is considering implementing Work From Home (WFH) arrangements for public sector employees as part of efficiency measures amid the ongoing global geopolitical situation, Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi, speaking on Saturday, March 14, 2026, as reported by Antara, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has requested a review of the policy.
“The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has asked the KN and KPPA to review the WFH proposal to ensure several aspects are properly aligned for the public sector,” Fahmi, who also serves as the government’s spokesman, said.
The minister added that all ministries and government agencies have been instructed to consider the perspectives of industry players and sector partners regarding the impact of the conflict in the Middle East.
Malaysia has also been pursuing measures to reduce state expenditure in anticipation of geopolitical fallout. These include canceling open house events for Eid by ministries, government agencies, and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), as well as limiting foreign visits by cabinet members.
PM Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia is not immune to global geopolitical developments, which could increase transportation costs, put pressure on commodity prices, and challenge economic stability.
Despite rising global oil prices, Anwar said the government will maintain the price of RON 95 gasoline at 1.99 ringgit (around Rp8,584) per liter.
“We will continue to monitor global conflict developments closely and take additional measures to ensure the stability of the economy and protect the welfare of the people,” the Prime Minister said.
