TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corporal Dua Basarsyah, or Kopda Basar, has been designated as the main suspect in the shooting of three members of the Indonesian National Police during a raid of cockfighting in Way Kanan, Lampung. He is now facing a maximum penalty of life imprisonment for his actions.
The Acting Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Army Military Police, Major General Eka Wijaya Permana, revealed that based on the results of the joint TNI-Polri investigation team and the testimonies of witnesses, Kopda Basar admitted to shooting the victims. "The shooter is Corporal B, and he has admitted to shooting the 3 victims," said Eka during a press conference held at the Lampung Regional Police on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
In response to the skirmish between the TNI and 17 police officers during the crackdown on the cockfighting operation, Eka stated that, up to this point, the shooting suspect is Kopda Basar. In coordination with the Director of Criminal Investigation at the Lampung Regional Police, the Indonesian Army has matched the evidence, including several bullet casings at the crime scene. "Regarding the shooting, his confession is clear and openly admitted by Corporal B," said Eka.
As a result of his actions, Kopda Basar has been charged with various articles, starting from Article 340 of the Indonesian Penal Code regarding premeditated murder, Article 338 regarding murder, and Article 1 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 concerning the illegal possession of firearms. The maximum punishment that can be imposed on the perpetrator is the death penalty or life imprisonment.
"Anyone who intentionally and premeditatedly takes the life of another person is threatened with premeditated murder, punishable by death or life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years," reads Article 340 of the Indonesian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Article 1 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 regarding the illegal possession of firearms stipulates, "Anyone, without right, who brings into Indonesia, manufactures, receives, attempts to obtain, delivers or attempts to deliver, possesses, carries, has in stock, stores, transports, conceals, uses, or releases from Indonesia any firearm, ammunition or explosive material, is subject to the death penalty or life imprisonment or a maximum of twenty years imprisonment."
Kopda Basar Used Non-Organic Firearms in the Shooting
Major General Eka Wijaya Permana also revealed that the firearms used by Kopda Basar in the shooting of three police officers were non-organic factory-made firearms. "The weapon used by Corporal B is a factory-made weapon, but not of TNI organic origin," he said.
Eka explained that this weapon was found on March 19, 2025, after the suspect had discarded it while fleeing the scene. The military police investigators immediately conducted a search and successfully found the evidence.
This firearm evidence will be examined for its origin in forensic laboratories, both in the TNI and the Indonesian National Police Headquarters. So far, what has been found is a weapon with mixed spare parts. "The barrel is FNC (Fabrique Nationale Carabine), but the others are SS1, so it is suspected that this firearm is a makeshift weapon because it does not meet factory standards," Eka said.
