TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of students from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) interrupted the book launch and seminar discussing Prabowonomics at the ITB campus on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The event was attended by several members of the House of Representatives (DPR) as well as several ministers of Presdient Prabowo.
Those present at the book launch and Prabowonomics seminar included Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, House Commission X Chair Hetifah Sjaifudian, House Commission X Chaie Misbakhun, Cooperative Minister Ferry Juliantono, Manpower Minister Yassierli, and Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto. The event was also attended by the ITB rectorate and political critic Rocky Gerung.
Amid the event, several students from the ITB Student Family entered the West Hall of the Campus. They expressed their protest against the politically laden event.
"We, from the ITB Student Family and ITB students, express our rejection of the government's politicization of the campus," said one of the students who was allowed to speak on Thursday, March 5, 2026, as quoted by IDN Times.
According to them, ITB is often used as a political venue by those in power. However, they asserted that the campus environment should be free from political activities and should focus on upholding academic values.
Tempo tried to contact the head of KM ITB, Farrel Faiz, and the official Instagram account of KM ITB. However, there has been no response from either of them at the time of writing.
The Director of Communication and Public Relations at ITB, Nurlaela Arief, stated that they still need to coordinate the implementation of the book launch and seminar on Prabowonomics on campus, which students protested. "I am currently not in Bandung," she said on Friday, March 6, 2026.
The book Menggugat Republik was written by former Golkar Party politician, Syahganda Nainggolan. He mentioned that 30 percent of the book discusses the concept of Prabowonomics, including his thoughts on the leadership of the Chair of the Gerindra Party in facing geopolitical and economic pressures.
"I wrote this book because I believe President Prabowo is the right person to lead the republic in times of crisis like the present," he said.
