TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Israeli government has affirmed that Turkish troops will not be part of the planned multinational force for Gaza. "There will be no Turkish boots on the ground," said Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian on Sunday, as quoted by Middle East Eye. The statement was a direct response to questions regarding Turkey's potential involvement in the international force currently under discussion.
International Stabilization Force (ISF) Plan
According to a report by The New Arab, the proposal for an international force is part of U.S. President Donald Trump's diplomatic efforts to end the two-year conflict in Gaza. The plan includes forming the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to maintain the ceasefire as Israeli forces begin to withdraw.
As of now, the force has not been officially formed.
Several countries have urged that the force's presence be officially mandated by the United Nations Security Council.
Some countries involved in the ceasefire efforts, including Jordan, have stated that the stabilization force is not intended to enforce the ceasefire or disarm Hamas.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan stated on Saturday that it would not join the international force until the conflict, which it characterized as Israeli genocide, truly ends in Gaza.
U.S. and Turkish Perspectives
Despite Israel's rejection, U.S. representatives have mentioned the possibility of Turkish participation. U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, stated at a security conference in Manama earlier this month that Turkey would participate in the multinational force.
In early November, Turkey also hosted a meeting of foreign ministers from Muslim-majority countries involved in the Gaza ceasefire discussions.
"Our principle is that Palestinians should govern the Palestinians and ensure their own security, the international community should support this in the best possible way - diplomatically, institutionally and economically," said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance had previously mentioned Ankara's "constructive role" in stabilization efforts for Gaza. However, he emphasized that Washington would not pressure Israel to accept the presence of foreign forces on its territory.
As quoted by Anadolu, President Donald Trump stated that the internationally coordinated stabilization force will soon be deployed in Gaza.
"It's going to be very soon. And Gaza is working out very well," Trump said during a meeting at the White House with the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
He noted that Washington continues to work with regional partners to ensure stability in the area.
