TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's presence at the 81st Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly serves as an apt opportunity to affirm the country's strong commitment to multilateralism and global peace.
As conveyed by Indonesia's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela to ANTARA on Tuesday, Indonesia's presence at the annual UN event strengthens its role in promoting dialogue, bridging differences, and building consensus amidst various global challenges.
Indonesia will maximize this opportunity to voice the interests of developing countries and affirm its commitment to continuing its contributions to world peace, as it has done so far.
Indonesia will also pay special attention to the plight of the Palestinian people amidst Zionist military aggression and the subsequent obstruction of humanitarian aid.
"Indonesia reaffirms support for the Palestinian people's struggle and the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza," said Nabyl.
Indonesia's presence at this year's UN General Assembly is represented by Foreign Minister Sugiono, who leads the delegation on behalf of President Prabowo. Minister Sugiono arrived in New York, United States, on Monday, local time.
He is scheduled to deliver Indonesia's national statement during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Saturday evening.
While in New York, Sugiono will attend various high-level meetings and ministerial meetings discussing strategic issues of peace and security, the Palestinian issue, climate change, and multilateralism.
One of Sugiono's first events in New York on Monday was the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic Countries, with representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Pakistan.
On that occasion, Sugiono urged the international community to prioritize peace efforts to bring real change for the Palestinian people, especially amidst the worsening situation in Gaza.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly officially kicked off in New York on September 8. Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman was elected president of the UN General Assembly for this term, succeeding former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
This year's UNGA raises the theme "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A UN that delivers for all." The General Debate Session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 22-26 and will continue on September 28.
