TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) records 27.4 million workers in the country's creative economy sector this year. This data was conveyed by BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Overall, creative economy workers contribute 18.70 percent of the national workforce, marking a rise from the 2024 data. "In 2024, the number of creative economy workers reached 26.48 million or 18.30 percent," said Amalia in a press release received on Monday, November 18, 2025.
West Java, Amalia detailed, records the highest number of creative economy workers with 6.24 million. She also noted top three provinces with the highest worker absorption in this sector, namely West Java, Central Java, and East Java, posting 57.81 percent of the total creative economy workforce.
On the same occasion, Amalia emphasized that the 2026 Economic Census would be an important momentum for a more detailed portrait of the creative economy sector.
In the future, she said, the 2026 Economic Census will be able to provide a comprehensive picture of the number of creative business actors, ranging from culinary, music, to digital content. Amalia stated that this data would also serve as the basis for calculating the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the creative economy.
The 2026 Economic Census will be conducted in June-July 2026. Amalia revealed that one of the main innovations in next year's census is the use of digital technology in data collection. This is because census officers will no longer only carry paper questionnaires, but also use tablets.
The digital census application is equipped with automatic validation features that can minimize input errors and allow real-time data checks.
Moreover, the 2026 Economic Census provides self-enumeration facilities for large-scale businesses. Thus, business respondents can fill out data via the provided website link without having to wait for the arrival of census officers.
