TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) believes that President Prabowo Subianto's plan to limit students to only playing online games with violent content is not sufficient to address the issue of violence in schools. KPAI reminds the government to restrict and supervise providers of violent content.
According to KPAI Commissioner Aris Adi Leksono, control exercised by parents and teachers over children will be difficult if providers of violent content are allowed to operate without clear limits. "If the produced content is indeed negative and detrimental to children's development, strict sanctions should be imposed," said Aris on Monday, November 10, 2025.
He views the exposure of students to what they watch as no longer tolerable. The explosion at SMAN 72 (high school) in Jakarta last week is just one of the many negative impacts caused by children's unrestricted access to dangerous content.
The explosion at SMAN 72 in Jakarta last Friday resulted in 96 injuries. The police stated that the alleged perpetrator, who also became a victim of the explosion, was a student. Some witnesses mentioned that the alleged perpetrator of the explosion was a victim of bullying.
KPAI also supports Prabowo's plan to limit students' access to games containing violent elements. According to Aris, many students have become both perpetrators and victims of violence because they were inspired by what they watched and played in the digital world.
"The impact has become increasingly evident. It's not just what happened at SMAN 72 in Jakarta. There have been several incidents where exposure to what they watched in their games and on social media has had an impact," he said.
The President's plan to limit male and female students from playing online games with violent content was conveyed by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. He mentioned that one example of a restricted game is the online battle game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG). "There are different types of weapons in it. It's very easy to learn, and even more dangerous," said Prasetyo at Prabowo's residence on Kertanegara Street, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
As the Chair of the Gerindra Party's Central Executive Board, he stated that war games psychologically make children consider violence as something normal. Prabowo, according to Prasetyo, feels that the influence of online games is not beneficial for the future generation.
