Fact Check: Claim That Iran Has Surrendered to Israel and US Is False

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of Facebook [archive] and TikTok posts on March 4, 2026, spread claims that Iran had surrendered in the war against Israel and the United States, which has been ongoing since February 28, 2026.

These posts stated that Iran surrendered after its capital, Tehran, was bombarded by the two countries.

“After being continuously targeted by Israeli fighter jets, a video has circulated claiming to show several Iranian citizens in Tehran pleading for the IDF to stop the attacks on their country,” wrote the accounts spreading the content.

But is it true that Iran declared surrender to Israel and the United States?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the content by comparing its narrative with information from credible sources. The result: there is no statement from Iran surrendering to Israel and the U.S. On the contrary, Iran announced that it would not negotiate and would continue a long-term war.

Kamal Kharazi, foreign policy advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, in an exclusive interview with CNN, said his country is ready for a long war against the United States. Iran is also prepared to continue striking Gulf countries to pressure President Donald Trump to withdraw from the conflict.

So far, Iran has rejected diplomacy, stating that the war will only end through economic hardship, signaling an increasingly hardline stance from the Iranian government.

I don’t see any room for diplomacy anymore. Because Donald Trump had been deceiving others and not keeping with his promises, and we experienced this in two times of negotiations – that while we were engaged in negotiation, they struck us,” Kharazi told CNN on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Even so, the intensity of Iran’s attacks on Israel and U.S. military sites in Arabian Peninsula countries has decreased since the first day, February 28, 2026, according to BBC reports.

The reduction went from hundreds of missiles on the first day to dozens per day. U.S. top commander General Dan Caine said the decline reached 86 percent on March 4, then further dropped to 23 percent on March 10 compared to the previous day. The decrease in intensity is suspected to be due to Iran possibly not having enough weapons to sustain large-scale attacks over a long period.

According to Iran International, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, projected that their attack plan would focus on economic centers and banks owned by the U.S. and Israel in the region. Civilians are advised to avoid a one-kilometer radius around these banks.

Iran’s Attacks Continue

Citing The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and the Critical Threats Project (CTP), Iran launched nine missile attacks on Israel on March 8 and 9. Israeli media and journalists reported that Iranian ballistic missiles with cluster munition warheads hit seven different locations in Israel, killing at least one Israeli civilian and injuring several others.

Cluster munitions are a type of conventional weapon dropped from the air or launched from the ground, designed to release or disperse dozens to hundreds of small bombs over a wide area.

Iran also continued targeting Gulf countries on March 8 and 9. However, about 94 percent of Iranian missiles and drones were reportedly intercepted and destroyed.

CONCLUSION

Tempo’s verification concludes that the narrative claiming Iran surrendered to Israel and the United States in the war initiated by the two Western Bloc countries is false.
