TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Professor Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo revealed intimidation by several members of the Education and Development Foundation of University of Pancasila (YPP-UP) before he was removed from the position of UP Rector. Marsudi stated that these individuals often forced him to comply with the foundation's will, including reactivating Edie Toet Hendratno (ETH), the former rector who was involved in a case of sexual violence.
"If I don't comply, I was threatened with evaluation," Marsudi said in an interview with Tempo on Monday night, April 28, 2025.
Marsudi refused the order on the grounds that the legal process involving ETH was not yet completed. He mentioned that this refusal was the beginning of tension with the foundation. "I protected the victims, but was considered disloyal," he said.
According to Marsudi, his dismissal from the position of UP rector is full of anomalies. The assessment of his performance was described as subjective and did not go through a valid statutory mechanism. Furthermore, the Senate never invited him for a discussion or sent him a notification.
He also claimed that all the reasons stated in the dismissal letter were fabricated. "The reasons were made up. The performance evaluation was subjective. Looking at the university's performance index in Dikti, UP has shown a 25-30% increase this year," he said.
Marsudi plans to take legal action regarding his dismissal. He believes that the dismissal procedure was legally flawed as it did not involve the University Senate. Although he respects the decision, he will report to the Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Service Institution.
In response to Marsudi's dismissal as UP Rector, the Director-General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Khairul Munadi, stated that the government has not received an official report. "We need to observe the existing facts," Khairul said.
Tempo is still trying to obtain confirmation from the Chairperson of YPP-UP, Siswono Yudo Husono, and the public relations of University of Pancasila. However, until this news is written, they have not responded to Marsudi's unilateral dismissal as rector.
Meanwhile, Marsudi's dismissal occurred amidst the case of sexual violence involving the former rector of the University of Pancasila, Edie Toet Hendratno. The Jakarta Metro Police have been investigating allegations of sexual violence by Edie Toet against two UP employees with the initials RZ and DF.
RZ's report was registered under the number LP/B/193/I/2024/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA on January 12, 2024, while DF's report was registered at the Central Police Headquarters under the number LP/B/36/I/2024/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated January 29, 2024. However, the handling of these two reports has not been concluded as no suspects have been identified yet.
Edie Toet has denied the allegations of sexual harassment against the two UP employees. "No, no, no," he said to journalists when questioned at the Jakarta Metro Police in February last year. He also stated that he would respect the ongoing legal process. "I am a law professor, so I must adhere to the rules," he said.
Through his former lawyer, Faizal Hafied, Edie Toet once accused the case of having political motives. His reason being that he intended to run for the rector election at the University of Pancasila in March 2024.
Most recently, the number of complainants against Edie has increased. Two individuals with the initials AM and IR reported Edie Toet to the Criminal Investigation Body of the Indonesian National Police Headquarters on Friday, April 25, 2025. They were accompanied by their legal representative, Yansen Ohoirat.
Yansen explained that both of his clients had experienced sexual harassment at different times and locations. The harassment against IR occurred in 2019 in a location in South Jakarta. Meanwhile, AM claimed to have been harassed in February 2024 at a mall in the same area.
Unlike the two previous sexual violence victims who were UP employees, these two new victims are private sector employees who had previously collaborated with the university. AM's report was registered under the number STTL/196/IV/2025/BARESKRIM dated April 25, 2025. While IR's report is still pending further investigation and is planned to be continued next week.
